Parallels is an original Star Wars audiobook by Nathan P. Butler, that includes a full cast, but is different from audio dramas in
that it relies heavily on narrated prose.
Author's Comments: This was a very interesting project. The first three-part Serial
Edition was an experiment in making what I call an “enhanced audiobook.” I wrote a series of three short stories, meant to be listened
to as a trilogy. Instead of taking a normal, chronological approach to the story, I chose to emulate the storytelling style of NBC’sBoomtown by telling the same complete story in each part, but utilizing a different character’s point of view each time, so that the
story could build, layer by layer, rather than as a simple sequence of events. Rather than simply recording this as an audiobook,
where it would just be me reading the story, I decided to go ahead and cast the three speaking parts. The final project was successful,
with the story, which I narrated, drawing people in, and the performances by Ian Bowie, Krista Kolesar, and Mike Lane keeping people
interested.
Connections: The three episodes of Parallels are a standalone story unto themselves, but they take place within the same
"universe" as Second Strike, Nothing Changes, the Anthology series, Always in Motion, and the other ChronoRadio: Serial Edition tales.
